
Diagnose Algebra Mistakes in Mathematics
Find the first invalid transformation, name the algebraic rule involved and test the repaired method on a structurally similar expression.

The final wrong line rarely identifies the cause. Algebra errors propagate, so diagnosis should move from the start and locate the first step that no longer preserves equality, sign, domain or structure.
Take it one step at a time.
01Check each transformation
Compare consecutive lines and ask what operation was applied to both sides or every term.
02Name the rule
Identify distribution, index law, factorisation, inverse operation, inequality rule or another exact principle.
03Repair from the previous valid line
Do not edit only the final answer. Rebuild the solution from the last justified step.
04Verify independently
Substitute, expand, graph or use another appropriate check, then solve a new related problem.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Moving a term across an equals sign without describing the inverse operation.
- Cancelling terms across addition.
- Ignoring excluded values or inequality direction.

Confirm the qualification, subject, awarding body, specification generation and any tier, level, option or component with your school before applying the method.
