Identify the chemical relationship, write the symbolic route, carry units through the calculation and check whether the final value is chemically reasonable.

A wrong chemistry calculation may come from chemical understanding, equation setup, mole ratios, unit conversion, arithmetic or significant figures. Repeating more numbers without locating the failing step is inefficient.
Take it one step at a time.
01Name the relationship
State what connects the given information to the unknown: moles, concentration, gas volume, energy, equilibrium or another route-specific relationship.
02Build the symbolic path
Write the equations and ratio before substituting values. Balance the chemical equation where required.
03Track units and scale
Convert units deliberately and keep enough precision until the final answer.
04Check the chemistry
Ask whether the sign, magnitude, composition and limiting conditions make sense.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using a memorised formula without checking what quantity it returns.
- Applying coefficients as masses rather than mole ratios.
- Rounding during intermediate steps.
