Longer Geography answers are not rewarded for length alone. Strong responses select relevant knowledge, apply it to the supplied or studied context and sustain analysis or evaluation at the demand of the route.
Take it one step at a time.
01Decode the command and scope
Underline the process, place, time scale and judgement required. Distinguish explain, assess, evaluate and compare.
02Choose evidence with a purpose
Use data, a named place, fieldwork or the resource only where it advances the point.
03Build causal chains
Connect cause, process, consequence and significance rather than listing disconnected facts.
04Reach a supported judgement
Weigh scale, time, perspective or conditions and answer the question asked.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Writing a memorised case study without adapting it.
- Describing a resource when analysis is required.
- Adding a conclusion that introduces a new unsupported claim.
Use the method on your exact course
Confirm the qualification, subject, awarding body, specification generation and any tier, level, option or component with your school before applying the method.
Start with a small question you can check independently. Keep the first attempt, learn from feedback, then return to fresh material after a delay.
What useful evidence looks like
Compare responses for relevance, geographical reasoning, use of evidence and the quality of the final judgement—not word count alone.
Read results alongside coverage, sample size, difficulty and recency. One answer does not establish the whole topic.
